Who We Are

Centre for Media & Digital Literacy (CMDiL)

The digital age has ushered in a new communication and information-sharing era while facilitating the rapid spread of false information and cybercrimes such as hate speech. Media and digital literacy have been identified as critical skills for addressing some of these adverse effects of the digital revolution. While digital infrastructure is growing in Ghana, there is a significant gap in the media and digital literacy skills among citizens, especially among underserved communities, such as young people and non-literate adults. This gap hinders their ability to navigate the digital world effectively and safely, limiting their potential to contribute to and benefit from the digital economy's opportunities.

The Centre for Media and Digital Literacy (CMDiL) aims to address these gaps by advocating and providing comprehensive media and digital literacy education/ training to these underserved communities. The Centre will focus on equipping target groups with the skills needed to engage with digital content critically, understand the ethical implications of media consumption, and use digital tools to create and share content responsibly.
Our Mission
To work with relevant publics, including educators, academia, parents, children, youth and the media industry, to advance critical media, information and digital competence and advocate for media literacy education among underserved communities.
Vision
To empower underserved communities, particularly young people and non-literate adults, to use and engage with all forms of media and digital tools critically, confidently, efficiently, and ethically.
